Electrophysiology Studies
An EP study helps your physician locate areas within the heart that may be causing an abnormal rhythm. A catheter is inserted through your groin and guided through your artery up into your heart. The physician can send impulses to stimulate the heart, allowing the physician to identify what type of heart rhythm problem you may have.
This procedure is done in the hospital and take anywhere from 2-6 hours. You should not eat or drink 4-6 hours prior to the test. You will also need transportation to drive you home. Your physician will discuss the results of this with you after the procedure.
